Therapy for a brighter tomorrow!
I’m Evelyn.
I have been a full-time practising counsellor for over 15 years. I follow an integrative approach to therapy sessions, helping individuals and couples work through traumas, challenges, and difficulties in their lives and relationships so they can achieve a happier and healthier quality of life.
An integrative approach
I am a firm believer in making sure that my counselling approach fits the client’s individual and unique needs, personality and life experiences. As such, I believe that there is no single therapeutic approach that can help every client in all situations. I may offer insights and guidance, drawing on various therapeutic tools and techniques to help you to develop your own coping strategies to navigate challenges. Sessions may involve deep emotional processing, goal-setting, and reflection, or - if it’s better for you - working things out in a more creative way..
Originally I am from Ontario, Canada.
In my personal life I enjoy walking, cooking and travelling and I especially enjoy travelling back to Canada to visit family and friends there. Health and wellness in general has long been an interest of mine, and this is clearly reflected within my counselling work. My journey started by attending an intro course to counselling, and I found right there and then that this was something I was deeply passionate about and wanted to pursue. More and more I see a link between the physical and the emotional, the mental and spiritual. It’s all joined up and connected, and it’s important to not neglect the physical aspects and the body as a whole as we delve into the emotional side of things in counselling. One thing affects the other: we hold trauma and stress directly in our bodies and muscles as well as our hearts.
As a fully-qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), I have a BA Hons in Counselling at degree level. I have undertaken extra training in child and adolescent therapy, and in couples counselling. I also provide supervision to other counsellors and student counsellors and clinical supervision to the voluntary sector. Alongside my counselling work, I am also a foster carer here in England and have undergone extensive training in the realities faced by children who are taken into care, and considerable experience dealing with their needs. Many of my clients face very serious challenges - including, but not limited to, depression, anxiety, bereavement and loss, self-harm, eating disorders, relationship issues and trauma. I now work in private practice in the Penistone area of Sheffield, having previously worked as Practice Manager and Senior Counsellor at Rainbow Counselling service in Sheffield for many years.
