It’s time to walk it out
Outdoor Therapy
Are you struggling with your mental health? Do you have anxiety or depression? Do you have social anxiety and the thought of sitting opposite a therapist really scares you and puts you off getting the help you deserve?
Why not try outdoor therapy! When we walk and get outside in the fresh air and nature, it helps to relax us and we often find it easier to talk, open up and make sense of our thoughts and feelings.
Walk it out
Outdoor therapy, also known as ecotherapy or nature therapy, offers unique benefits for individuals seeking support for their mental health concerns. The combination of traditional counselling techniques with the healing power of nature can contribute to a more holistic approach to therapy. Being outdoors can promote a sense of connection with the natural world, which has been shown to have positive effects on mental health. The sights, sounds, and smells of nature can help individuals feel more grounded and present, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety. At White Pine Counselling we would typically take a walk along the beautiful Transpenine Trail which is within walking distance from the therapy room in Penistone. Taking a walk often improves a clients mood and helps individuals think more clearly. This can be particularly beneficial when working through challenging emotions or situations.
Therapy is a safe space.
I am an integrative counsellor . Counselling works, not by fixing people, but by using integrative therapeutic techniques, helping you to begin to trust and understand yourself. I understand that asking for helps is hard. My approach is to listen to what you need to share, allowing you to feel heard. I am committed to being transparent, open and honest in therapy sessions. Everything is led by you and at your pace. The ultimate goal is to promote healing, personal growth, and positive well-being for each individual.
Being surrounded by natural beauty can reduce distractions and allow individuals to focus more on their emotions and thoughts. This can create a conducive environment for open and honest communication during therapy sessions. Walking side by side with a therapist outdoors can often feel less intimidating than face-to-face conversations in an office setting. This increased comfort level can make it easier for individuals to express their feelings and engage more openly in therapy. Walking promotes physical movement, which has been shown to have positive effects on mental health. The act of walking can help individuals feel more energized, focused, and engaged, creating a more relaxed environment for sharing and processing emotions.
Overall, the combination of outdoor therapy and walking in nature can provide a unique and effective avenue for individuals to communicate their feelings, gain insights, and work towards improved mental well-being.
Walk it out and talk it out.
Outdoor Therapy appointments will take place with me, Evelyn, along the beautiful Trans Pennine Trail in Penistone, Sheffield. The trail is scenic and fairly flat making it an ideal location for outdoor talking therapy.
